North Star Cockpit User Guide
Overview
The North Star Cockpit is an administrator's vision dashboard - a single screen that tracks the organisation's guiding goals (its "north stars") and how the platform is moving toward them. Rather than scattering targets across reports, it gathers the headline objectives in one place and shows progress at a glance, so leadership can see direction, momentum, and where attention is needed. Open it at /admin/north-stars.
What it does
The North Star Cockpit brings strategic goals and progress together for administrators:
- It presents the organisation's north-star goals - the high-level objectives that define success.
- It shows progress toward each goal, so you can see how far along the platform and the collection are.
- It acts as a cockpit view, surfacing the most important indicators on one screen instead of requiring you to assemble them from separate dashboards.
- It supports leadership and planning conversations by making direction and momentum visible at a glance.
It is intended for administrators and decision-makers who need the big picture rather than operational detail.
How to use it
- Go to /admin/north-stars (administrator access required).
- Review the north-star goals listed on the dashboard - these are the guiding objectives.
- Read the progress shown against each goal to gauge how the organisation is tracking.
- Use the cockpit in planning and review meetings to focus discussion on direction and the goals that need attention.
- Return regularly to watch momentum over time as the underlying activity changes.
Good to know
- The cockpit is a strategic overview, not an operational control panel - it shows where you are heading, while the detailed work happens in the relevant admin modules.
- Progress reflects the data the platform holds. Treat the indicators as a guide to direction and momentum rather than an exhaustive audit.
- Because it is an administration surface, it is restricted to administrators; it is not part of the public access experience.
- It pairs well with the other admin dashboards: use the cockpit to spot where to focus, then drill into the specific module for detail.
